Nestled in the heart of Woodstock is The Herwood Inn. Wives Em and June Atkins owned and operate this Catskills boutique hotel. Hailing from Hellâs Kitchen, NY, the pair dreamed of designing and creating their dream getaway. They utilized their past experience running short term rentals in NYC to cozy Woodstock.
Enter The Herwood, named after Em and Juneâs love of refurbishing furniture. Before the Herwood Inn became the best hotel in Woodstock, it was The White Dove Rockotel. In the span of five months, the Atkins converted the psychedelic palace into the chic bohemian oasis. The overall feel of The Herwood Inn is just as magical as natural elements of Woodstock itself.

On our way back to Cleveland from our , we planned the last leg of our trip around at stay at the best hotel in Woodstock. I love supporting LGBT owned businesses and everything that The Herwood Inn stands for is right up my alley.
We were lucky enough to stay in The King Suite. This upstairs suite sleeps two with a private outdoor patio and a luxurious clawfoot tub!
Our suite had a small kitchenette with a Nespresso and a Keruig, crystals, yoga mats, soft linens, and an amazing record collection complete with the suiteâs namesake Carole Kingâs Tapestry. It truly felt like our stay was stepping back straight into the prime Woodstock era with the most modern touches.
For real, it was our most comfortable stay! Itâs clear the Em and June really put a lot of thought and their experience of short-term rentals led to the thoughtful touches and robust amenities. Modern touches with vintage decor makes for the perfect getaway.
Our suite was stocked with everything we could have possibly wanted and more! Each room has an iPad to control all the tech and even offers room service in the means of local offerings, wine, and Herwood swag.
The Details
Every detail in The Herwood is thoughtfully planned. Em and June are passionate about creating a welcome environment to all in addition to choosing eco sustainable, cruelty free, and fair trade goods throughout The Herwood. My friends that I was traveling with eagerly ordered Buffy linens after the coziest nightâs rest as well as some of the eco friendly and ethically sourced toiletries!
While the stays are the utmost cozy, the grounds of The Herwood Inn are a shining draw. The natural greenery of upstate New York cocons the open air spaces, and letâs not forget the decadent cedar hot tub; itâs the perfect perch to take it all in. Bikes for spring and summer exploration and sleds for winter fun, The Herwood definitely sets up your stay for adventure and taking in all the Catskills outdoors have to offer.
COVID Precautions
With the onset of COVID-19, The Herwood closed their doors for the safety of their guests and community. They made it a priority to reassess all they had done in the months prior taking out anything in the suites that was not able to be sanitized. They replaced it with something just as retro but easily washable!
Masks are required any time out of the suites as well as the main commune temporarily closed to encourage social distancing. During our stay, we felt extremely safe and found it easy to distance from other guests due to The Herwoodâs spacious grounds.
