I cI would love to blame my late September wedding for lack of planning for October 31 but truthfully, I have always been pretty keen to the art of . In my post college party days, I put together a last minute Miss Piggy AND a Jersey Shore costume in a day. This year, I didn’t plan ahead at all. I did make some smart shopping decisions that allowed me to create a costume from my closet.
As soon as I watched season 3 of “Stranger Things,” I fell in love with Eleven’s romper she buys at the mall. It was available in an XXL at Target but sold out very quickly. I checked Poshmark next. I saw the asking prices were way more than I was willing to pay especially for something I’m not positive would fit.
As luck would have it, Hot Topic was selling a in the same print for a pre-sale. I bought the blouse in August and totally forgot about it. Imagine my surprise when it showed up at my door in mid-October – just in time for Halloween. I happened to order a pair of plus size acid wash jeans that arrived around the same time. I created my last minute Halloween costume with a scrunchie and velcro high top sneakers.
Plus Size Stranger Things Costume
Hot Topic usually runs pretty true to size so I ordered this 80s-style blouse in a size 2X which is what I usually wear. It’s fits but because there’s no stretch at all to the fabric, it would have been more comfortable in a 3X in the bust and bicep area. Since Rainbow tends to carry juniors plus, I ordered these acid wash jeans in a 3X. They fit comfortably and had elastic. I might have been able to wear the 2X but in any case, the baggy nature worked with the ’80s vibe.
My husband Gio is the person who got me watching “Stranger Things.” We binged watched the first two seasons together so I was all ready when the third season came out. When Nike released their Nike X Stranger Things collection this summer, you know my sneakerhead husband bought it right up. He grabbed a few of the tees and was able to get some of sneakers that sold out quickly.
He kept insisting that this was not a costume but I didn’t paint a fake bloody nose for nothing! This is an outfit he would wear normally in his everyday life. Honestly, this is a look I would probably wear too.
He paired the hunter (available up to a men’s 2XL) with the sold out green Tailwinds he was able to find in Milan during our Honeymoon! This may have been the reason we had to buy our second bag on the trip but that’s a different story for another blog post.
For last minute Halloween costumes, I don’t think we did too bad! While I was putting off planning my own costume, I found so much spooky inspiration from all of you. I asked you to tag #ReadyToHalloween and send me your costumes. Here’a few of the ones that were sent to me and a few others I found on the ‘gram.
