Every day in the U.S., it seems that there’s a new anti-LGBTQ+ law introduced somewhere in this country. I don’t blame any of my fellow queer babes for wanting to take a trip outside the country and explore. So let’s talk about the most LGBTQ+ friendly countries to add to your travel bucket list! Safety is hugely important when we’re traveling as LGBTQ+ people, so it’s always good to do your research before booking a trip. I hope that this post makes that process a bit easier and gives you a good place to start!
1. Iceland
Iceland is considered to be one of the best places for LGBTQ people to live. This means that the locals have very liberal attitudes toward the LGBTQ+ community. They’ve had full marriage equality recognized by the courts since 2015. Same-sex couples have equal access to adoption and IVF, and there are laws in place to protect the LGBTQ+ community from discrimination of any kind. Iceland features wild terrain like volcanoes, geysers, and hot springs.
2. Canada – LGBTQ+ Friendly Countries
3. Isle of Man
4. Uruguay – LGBTQ+ Friendly Countries
The country legalized same-sex marriage in 2013, and same-sex couple adoption was legalized in 2019. They have anti-discrimination laws in place to protect every individual’s rights regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Uruguay is known for its beach-lined coast, art deco buildings, and old port markets and piers.
5. Norway
There are many discrimination protections, marriage equality, and same-sex adoption is legal. They also have great trans healthcare policies. Norway is known for seeing the northern lights, colorful wooden houses, and outdoor/winter sports.
Countries to Avoid
It is just as important to know what countries to avoid when booking a trip. The least safe places for us to visit are Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Brunei, and Saudi Arabia.
