It’s no secret that planning my wedding was stressful for me. When I needed a break from the stress of seating charts, floral arrangements and vendor drama, I shifted my focus to September 23. This is the day that we left for our honeymoon in Paris and three other European cities.
Since visiting Paris in 2008 during study abroad, I knew I wanted to come back. I dreamed of traveling to Paris with someone I love. I couldn’t imagine a better place to go to celebrate my marriage. A lot has changed since I first went to Paris. I didn’t even have a smartphone at the time. There was no Instagram. I was incredibly insecure and I certainly never dreamed I would be making a career in front of the camera sharing my self love journey online. I’ve come a long way and I wanted to celebrate with a photoshoot in front of the Eiffel Tower. Now, I just needed something to wear!
I knew I could count on David’s Bridal to have a that I could fit in my suitcase. From A-line and ballgown to mermaid and jumpsuits, David’s Bridal carries a range of silhouettes for plus size brides. With a 12-day Honeymoon and a limited amount of a luggage space, a ballgown was not an option. I still wanted to make a statement.
For my honeymoon in Paris, I wanted a dress that was classic but still felt modern and trendy. I found this draped off the shoulder from DB Studio and I had to try it on. It looked similar in a way to the dress I wore for my but instead of being fully fitted, it featured elegant draping. It was the first dress I tried on at David’s Bridal and as soon as I looked in the mirror, I knew I didn’t need to try anything else on! This was the dress I had dreamed of.
At the David’s Bridal store, I was able to try on my usual size of 20. I was pleasantly surprised that this dress was not bridal sizing. When plus size wedding dresses are made with bridal sizes, this can limit the size range. Your bridal size is 2-3 sizes larger than your ready-to-wear size. For example, I usually wear a bridal size 24.
The size range of this dress goes up to a 26. That means this dress will fit a true size 26. Plus size brides above a size 20 have a hard enough time finding dresses so knowing that this dress would fit my extended plus size babes warmed my heart.
With the off-the-shoulder moment and curve-hugging draping, this dress has a Grecian vibe. The slit is high but not too revealing. The sweetheart neckline is just that: sweet. It’s design details like the neckline that make the sex appeal of this dress more subtle.
This exclusive David’s Bridal plus size wedding dress is fully lined. The lining lends itself to the elegant formal feel. A slinky dress is definitely a moment but it’s not what I was looking to wear on my honeymoon in Paris. The fabric has some stretch to it but at the same time, the lining helps to give it structure. It zips up the back.
The lining doesn’t weigh the dress down which I appreciated when I went to pack it in my suitcase. I’ve seen brides bringing their big dress bag on an airplane and stuffing it into an overhead compartment. I didn’t want to do that. I kept this dress hung up on the hanger in a dress bag and secured it safely in my suitcase. A quick steam at the hotel and perfecto!
I linked up with photographer Sebastien Faye and he knew just the spot to take our honeymoon in Paris photos. We arrived early in the morning at the Trocadéro gardens. If we didn’t have the address, we would have spotted it by the multiple photographers and couples taking pictures there. With the view of the Eiffel Tower is the background, it’s easy to see why this is where most of the engagement, elopement and honeymoon in Paris photos happen.
