Four Fat Bitches Take NYFW – Fat Girl Flow, Ready to Stare, Margot Meanie & Nataliemeansnice

I’ll be honest that I didn’t know what to expect when I went to for the first time. Mainstream fashion isn’t exactly welcoming to plus size women especially when you’re not just acceptably plus but undeniably fat. I decided that I didn’t care about fitting in but I cared most about being myself.

In the spirit of being true to my fat bitch self, three of my closest blogger pals and I decided we were going to do a photoshoot together right across from the entrance to Skylight Clarkson Square, one of the venues for NYFW. Myself, , and all have distinctly different styles; we have different body shapes and we represent different heights and sizes. But we all equally love the designed by Corissa of Fat Girl Flow. One of my favorite photographers,captured these images.

We weren’t just commanding attention as four super stylish fat women on the street at NYFW but we were physically taking up a lot of space – a whole damn sidewalk to be exact. It felt incredibly liberating not to shrink or diminish myself to fit into fashion as I always thought I had to but to instead, demand my rightful place.

In addition to our own photoshoot, Natalie had her own camera crew there with Yahoo. As we were shooting, photographers came up to film us and reporters came up to talk to us. Our picture ended up on the IPSY Instagram story for their millions of followers. When we started shooting, I half expected someone to ask us to leave so the reaction we got was the exact opposite of what I expected to happen when we took over that sidewalk. But I guess that’s what happens you decide to own all of the things about yourself that you used to hide AND do it alongside three badass friends.

This shoot with these women in this moment was true magic. I don’t know if I can ever recreate how empowering it felt to have this moment but I know I will certainly try!
