Four Fat Bitches Take NYFW - Fat Girl Flow, Ready to Stare, Margot Meanie & Nataliemeansnice

Four Fat Bitches Take NYFW
I'll be honest that I didn't know what to expect when I went to New York Fashion Week for the first time. Mainstream fashion isn't exactly welcoming to plus size women especially when you're not just acceptably plus but undeniably fat. I decided that I didn't care about fitting in but I cared most about being myself.

In the spirit of being true to my fat bitch self, three of my closest blogger pals and I decided we were going to do a photoshoot together right across from the entrance to Skylight Clarkson Square, one of the venues for NYFW. Myself, Nataliemeansnice, Margot Meanie and Fat Girl Flow all have distinctly different styles; we have different body shapes and we represent different heights and sizes. But we all equally love the Fat Bitch shirt designed by Corissa of Fat Girl Flow. One of my favorite photographers, Rochelle Brock of Fat Leopard captured these images.

Just a Fat Bitch Going to New York Fashion Week

Just a Fat Bitch going to New York Fashion Week

There's a moment in every fat girl's life where she is called a fat bitch for the first time. For me, that moment came on the playground in third grade. My friend had told my crush about said crush and his response was "eww, she's a fat bitch." I remember being startled and hurt. He was the first but he wasn't the last. And during that time of my life, I really started to delve deeper into my love of fashion.

Fashion became my freedom from bullying. I knew that I could put together looks better than anyone else. I wasn't afraid to stand out. In fact, I thrived when I did. I remember writing out my first list of goals and right at the top: attend New York Fashion Week. And guess what? In only a few short days, this Fat Bitch is doing just that!

Finding My Personal Style Through Challenging Fashion Rules

Finding My Personal Style Through Challenging Fashion Rules

I used to cling to fashion rules. I loved them so much that I created a book of fashion don'ts when I was in middle school. As a current lover of fashion rule-breaking, I am ashamed to admit that following fashion rules was ever part of my past. But to be fair, I was only 12.

I was bullied a lot when I was younger and I internalized a lot of it. My personal style was the only thing that I felt really confident about and I think "the rules" were my way of showing just how much I knew about fashion: no socks with sandals, no dresses with sneakers, etc. I felt like I had something to prove.

Plus Size Spring Fashion Trend Watch with JD Williams

The first day of Spring arrived earlier this week and personally, I was ready! Plus size spring fashion brings a whole host of new styles and trends that are sure to brighten up your wardrobe. And while I am totally an advocate of wearing whatever you want when you want, there's something special about spring fashion trends. Today, I've partnered with UK-based plus size retailer JD Williams to bring you a trend report with two of my favorite plus size spring fashion trends: floral and stripes.

One quick look through JD Williams' new arrivals and I instantly gravitated towards pieces with bold floral patterns and sporty athleisure stripes. In some cases, I saw pieces with both stripes and florals. I love these two trends for spring because they combine elements of strong and soft for an ultra-confident look that I can certainly get behind. With warmer weather on the horizon, there's no reason to hide and these trends will definitely have you standing out.

Trendy Plus Size Fashion with Fashion Nova Curve

Trendy Plus Size Fashion with Fashion Nova Curve

I have long been a fan of wearing a long tee with no pants as a makeshift dress. It just so happens now to be a plus size fashion trend but since it can be hard to find tees that actually fit oversized on a curvy body, I knew when I saw this camo tee from Fashion Nova Curve, I had to try it out. You can take 15% off your order from Fashion Nova with the code XOALYSSE!

I spent a long time hating my legs so it's important to now to be able to wear whatever I want without being limited by how I feel about my body. The other thing that has held me back from dressing how i want in the past was the existence of the things I want to wear in my size. The fact that Fashion Nova makes a tee in plus sizes that is long enough to cover my butt but still short enough to not be a dress on me as a petite plus size babe is huge!

What To Wear To Start 2017 Unapologetically Fat

Fat Positive Apparel
We are a few days into 2017 and I am already sick of Oprah's latest Weight Watchers commercial on repeat and the constant touting of "New Year, New You." You are certainly free to do whatever you want with your own body but it also most certainly sucks that loving your fat body doesn't seem to be viewed as a valid option for a lot of the messaging we get around this time of year. Sporting fat positive apparel and accessories is just one way that I choose to assert autonomy over my own fat body.
Loving your fat body and expressing that through what you say, wear, and do is a radical act. I like to use fashion as a means of personal empowerment and it's also one of the ways that I like to challenge the stigma against fat bodies. January, in particular, is filled with so many messages that fat bodies are bad. This month (and every month really), it's important to send a message that you and your fat body are beautiful, worthy and don't require anyone else's approval to feel that way.

16 Plus Size Style Mantras I Practiced In 2016

I swear I wasn't going to make a year in review type of post this year but what can I say I am a girl who loves self reflection and even though 2016 sucked in so many ways, I had some really great plus size personal style moments this year. I continued to break the rules, follow my own fashion bliss and hopefully inspired some of y'all to do the same!

When I first started plus size blogging, taking images became a self love challenge. Blogging was a way for me to see myself in a whole new light. And along the way, the things that used to terrify me became second nature. I decided that my flaws were part of my power and my beauty. Eventually, I learned to see my body not as a problem I needed to solve but as a beautiful vessel that was all mine.

Black Owned Business: HGC Apparel Co.
For my birthday trip to San Diego, I brought along a few casual looks from Black-Owned Business: HGC Apparel Co. As I mentioned in my #BloggersForBlackLives post earlier this year, I am going to work on making a more conscious effort to rock more apparel from Black Owned Businesses and when it comes to making a fashion statement and social change at the same time, HGC Apparel Co. is one of the best!
I love HGC Apparel tees and sweatshirts not only because of the designs but also because of the quality and fit. I wear the HGC Apparel Co. "Support Black Owned Business" tee all the time and it is soooo soft. The brand is plus-size friendly with most women's tees available to 2XL and unisex tees and sweatshirts up to the same size.

#BloggersForBlackLives
I am honored to be able to participate alongside my fellow plus size bloggers in #BloggersForBlackLives. Today, more than ever, I feel like we need the reminder. Founded by Seyi of In Fashion We Trust, #BloggersForBlackLives was created to stand in solidarity with the black men and women gunned down by police officers. And as Seyi writes, "just because you’re not the one being bullied at school, does not mean you can not stand up to the bully."
I remember the first time that I personally became aware of the systematic racism rampant in the police force. I was living in Chicago and my boyfriend at the time called to tell me that he had just been jumped outside a bar in the newly gentrified neighborhood where he lived. I remember the way his voice shook when he told me what happened.

Plus Size Tees: To The Polls

By Alysse Dalessandro
on November 07, 2016

plus size tees

This past weekend, I headed to my local board of elections to vote early. Armed with a fire in my belly to stand up to one of the hateful candidates in recent memory, I was ready to cast my vote and do my small part to stand up to the trauma that has been this election season. I wore my "Fuck Donald" Freedom of Speech plus size tee underneath my buttoned jacket. And if the rules allowed it, I would have gladly marched in there with my jacket wide open. My message this election season is clear: Fuck Donald. You can use the code "PLEASEVOTE" to take 30% off this tee and all DBM merch for the next 24 hours.

As a survivor of sexual assault, the mere mention of the name Donald Trump makes me feel ill. I haven't clicked on any articles related to Trump in months because it's honestly just too hard for me to see how Trump and his supporters justify sexual assault as "boys being boys." Trump is racist, xenophobic, and sexist as fuck. And what he's done is give like-minded bigots a chance to expose themselves and it's terrifying.
