Plus Size Fashion: Runway to Reality with Jordyn Woods x Addition Elle

It's been a while blog family! Between celebrating my 30th birthday and getting ready for the holidays, I haven't had as much time as I would like to focus on my blog but I promise that will be changing. Today, I have a special post for you featuring a piece that I first fell in love with during the Addition Elle NYFW show back in September.

Jordyn Woods' collection for Addition Elle was the first to strut down their runway and this embroidered kimono with matching silk pants gave me total TLC vibes. On the runway, it was shown with a bralette and I paired it with a velvet Chubby Cartwheels bralette, too. I wore this when I spoke on the Curvy Girl Conference in Chicago and it was a hit!

Introducing boohooMAN for Big & Tall Plus Babes
As plus size fashion for women and femmes has taken off over the last few years, similar options for plus size masculine folks have been a little slower to grow. Anytime there's a new option for big & tall men, I want to be sure to give it some shine and when one of my favorite fast fashion retailers boohoo introduced an option for men's big & tall shopping, I knew I had to try it out for myself!

I can't remember when exactly I started shopping in the men's section. It was probably in middle school when I started heavily thrifting. I realized that shopping in the men's plus or big & tall section meant that I have more options and often that things I intended to be oversized, actually would be. As femme as my style is, my closet remains filled with men's button-downs and jerseys.. I like to use men's clothing as a way to subvert gender norms and beauty standards for plus babes. I don't always have to appear hyper-feminine to be beautiful.

Plus Size Velvet: Fall Fashion Edition!

The leaves are changing and the temperature is dropping which means it's finally feeling like fall! The changing of the seasons means it's time to add new plus size fall fashions to your wardrobe and thanks to JCPenney, you don't have to break the bank doing it!

As soon as I walked into JCPenney, I couldn't help but notice all of the amazing velvet pieces on the racks! From wrap dresses to lace-up hoodies, it's clear that velvet is here to make it's mark on plus size fashion this season. I filled my cart with velvet goodies and settled on one skirt that I styled with two velvet different tops and a pair of velvet booties. It was a velvet overload of the very best variety.

Easy Plus Size Halloween Costume Ideas

Transitioning Summer Plus Size Fashion for Fall

Transitioning Summer Plus Size Fashion for Fall

It's officially August which kids are headed back to school and while I am glad my own school days are behind me, I know that means I have to get ready to trade my bikinis in for snow boots soon. My personal style and love of mesh, crop tops and swimwear lends itself to summer fashion but I love a good bomber jacket too. I decided to take some  plus size basics from On The Plus Side and style them for summer and fall.

While you may need totally different pieces for summer and winter, you don't have to make that transition quite yet. Fall presents a perfect time to keep your basics close and simply add layers and trade sandals for a cute bootie.

16 Plus Size Style Mantras I Practiced In 2016

I swear I wasn't going to make a year in review type of post this year but what can I say I am a girl who loves self reflection and even though 2016 sucked in so many ways, I had some really great plus size personal style moments this year. I continued to break the rules, follow my own fashion bliss and hopefully inspired some of y'all to do the same!

When I first started plus size blogging, taking images became a self love challenge. Blogging was a way for me to see myself in a whole new light. And along the way, the things that used to terrify me became second nature. I decided that my flaws were part of my power and my beauty. Eventually, I learned to see my body not as a problem I needed to solve but as a beautiful vessel that was all mine.

Plus Size Thigh High Wide Calf Boots

Wide Calf Thigh High Boots

Every year without fail, I get asked about one particular item in my wardrobe: my wide calf thigh high boots. I found them four years ago on a total whim when I was out shopping with my mom who ironically encouraged me to try them on. I wore them initially to a New Year's Eve party and I certainly wouldn't recommend breaking in a heel like this for the first time on a night like that. Let's just say, I spent a good chunk of my night scoping out available places to sit.

I've worn these wide calf thigh high boots on my blog every year and one of the images of me in these boots is now one of the top search results for the word "feminist." I am not mad about that at all (even though that same image has been used for countless hateful memes).

24 Wide Calf Boots For All Of Your Fall/Winter Needs

By Alysse Dalessandro

wide calf boots

If you're like me, winter brings more than cooler temps; it also brings the struggle to find a pair of boots that you can zip past your ankles. I've shed more than a few tears of the years trying to find wide calf boots that actually fit. But retailers are getting hip to our needs as wide calf babes and this season, there are so many good wide calf boot options that I wanted to share my favorite picks with you.

When you're shopping online for wide calf boots, you need to know your calf measurement. The best way to do it is to get a sewing tape measure and measure your calf at its widest part. For reference, my calf is 19" which sizes me out of a few options. In addition to checking the calf circumference prior to buying, also make sure to look at the store's return policy. I recently was gifted a pair of awesome thigh high boots that I couldn't get past my ankles and I had to pay to send them back. Because of their size and weight, shipping boots can be costly so it's always a good idea to check the return policy.

#BloggersForBlackLives: Actions Speak Louder Than Shirts

#BloggersForBlackLives
I am honored to be able to participate alongside my fellow plus size bloggers in #BloggersForBlackLives. Today, more than ever, I feel like we need the reminder. Founded by Seyi of In Fashion We Trust, #BloggersForBlackLives was created to stand in solidarity with the black men and women gunned down by police officers. And as Seyi writes, "just because you’re not the one being bullied at school, does not mean you can not stand up to the bully."
I remember the first time that I personally became aware of the systematic racism rampant in the police force. I was living in Chicago and my boyfriend at the time called to tell me that he had just been jumped outside a bar in the newly gentrified neighborhood where he lived. I remember the way his voice shook when he told me what happened.
