Three Must-See Spots in Los Angeles

If you've been reading this blog (and hey thanks for that!), you know that Marcy and I recently did some plus size travel to Los Angeles. We faced our fears both in fashion and in travel. When you're plus size, people always seem to have a lot to say about what you put on your body and where you go.

Whether it's a glare on a plane or someone yelling at you from their car window to cover up, I know that I am no stranger to body policing. In the spirit of living our best fat lives, Marcy and I decided to both rock one of summer's boldest and most fun prints during our Los Angeles adventure: gingham!

Now of course, there's going to be folks that try to say plus size girls in gingham look like tablecloths. Have fun hating because we know we look cute! Lane Bryant is one plus size retailer absolutely killing it right now with gingham and the whole day that we were these outfits, people were loving the prints. Before I jump into three of our favorite places we visited in Los Angeles, I'm gonna hit you with the outfit details below:

Three Must-See Spots in Los Angeles

1. The Corn Man

Plus Size Travel: Three Must-See Spots in Los Angeles

On a hunt for the best elote in Los Angeles, Marcy and I stumbled upon raves reviews for The Corn Man. The reviews said that this was the best elote in the city and you could only get it from 10 pm - 2 am. The reviews also warned of long lines. My love for elote runs so deep that we decided to try it. The directions we found on Yelp took us to a parking lot (2338 Workman St) where a long line had already formed even though The Corn Man was not there yet. Marcy held down the car while I waited in line for TWO HOURS. I was expecting 30 minutes but once I committed, I was kinda dying to see if it was worth this hype.

It was in fact the best elote that I've ever had in my life but next time, I would probably wear more comfortable shoes, bring my own folding chair and a jacket. If you want elote, be prepared to wait!

Even though it was dark, Marcy and I spotted this amazing heart wall right down next to the parking lot where we got our elote. We made a special trip back to capture its goodness in the daylight.

2. Little Damage

If you've seen people posting pics on IG with black ice cream, chances are they got it from Little Damage in downtown Los Angeles. I want to preface this all by saying this is a must-see spot based on aesthetics only because I prefer sugar-free or vegan options. On the day that we went, they were sold out of the vegan option so I knew I was going to literally buy this $7 ice cream only to take pictures. I made peace with that. We waited in line for about a half hour.

We met up fellow plus size babes writer Laurel Dickman and Brianna of the blog Mama Fierce and photographer Suma Jane Dark who snapped the pics below. The ice cream melting cramped my style since I was really on there to take pics but if rose-flavored ice cream is your thing, you would be in heaven.

3. The Plus Bus

If you are plus size, then a trip to The Plus Bus is a MUST for you. It's the plus size fashion home base for all the cool things happening in the city and it's run by two rad plus babes, Jen and Marcy, who are killing it in the design and styling game, respectively.

The Plus Bus sells both new and used clothes and I've visited every time I've been in LA since it opened. I always leave room in my suitcase for all of the clothes I know I'll fall in love with there. Marcy and I actually traveled to LA specifically to be a part of The Plus Bus Anniversary Party and we had our own blogger closet sale as part of the larger event.

I got to hang with so many amazing plus size babes at this event including models Katana Fatale and Saucye West. If you are lucky enough to be in town for a Plus Bus event (and they do happen often) get there and if not, make sure you still stop by and shop! It's SO worth it!

Well there you have it! Three must-see spots in Los Angeles for all of my fellow plus size babes. Make sure you follow myself (@readytostare) and Marcy (@fearlesslyjustme) on Instagram and check out Marcy's blog here.
