I remember the first time one of my Ready to Stare fashion interns mentioned the word "athleisure" to me back in early 2015. The word itself immediately intrigued me and I began researching how to make this trend possible for plus size. By June 2015, I compiled seven plus size athleisure looks for Bustle and I continue to look for ways to incorporate this sporty style into my wardrobe. I like the juxtaposition of casual fits with sexy cuts. Think athletic pants with lace teddies or in my case, a fitted bodycon skirt with a men's tee.

My friend model Sabrina Servance had this JCPenney mesh bomber jacket when we stayed together in New York and I knew that I had to make it mine. Although it's now sold out, the Ashley Nell Tipton for Boutique+ plus size sequin bomber jacket and the BELLE + SKY embroidered bomber jacket are awesome substitutes for an athleisure look.

JCPenney has one of the widest size ranges out there for women's plus size and I am wearing a size 1X in this jacket. I paired it with a men's Adidas essentials logo tee and a stretch striped bodycon pencil skirt from the JCPenney's junior section.

The junior's section at JCPenney is great because the 3X fits up to a size 26 unlike most junior plus sections where the 3X maybe fits up to an 18. I am a size 20 and I am comfortably wearing this skirt in a 2X.

My biggest tips for plus size athleisure is to think outside the box of pieces you think would traditionally go together. Whether it be lace, mesh or fishnet, play with texture and most importantly, have fun!
