Easy Plus Size Halloween Costume Ideas

I like to try and treat everyday as an excuse to dress up but for some reason plus size halloween costume ideas have always stumped me. Maybe it's because I'm known to wait until the last minute or perhaps because I hate investing in something I'll only wear once.

For those of you who are also stumped and don't want to buy a pre-packaged costume, I decided to put together some quick, easy and should-be-here-by-Halloween costume ideas! Make sure to consult all size charts before ordering and check shipment times. If you have any questions about fit, let me know and I will do my best to assist!

Boudoir for All Bodies, Ages, and Genders with Brooklyn Photographer Boudoir by Nomi

Boudoir for All Bodies, Ages, and Genders with Brooklyn Photographer Boudoir by Nomi

During my last trip to New York, I had the opportunity to do a body positive boudoir shoot with Brooklyn photographer Boudoir by Nomi. I am no stranger to posing and styling plus size lingerie but since I had to pack to be in New York for 10 days, I had limited space. I decided to style the same black bra and panties, five different ways. Shooting with Boudoir by Nomi made that a total breeze. She came ready with poses, various locations all in her private 1,500 square foot Prospect Heights studio (including a rooftop!) and styling help when I asked.

If you are new to the idea of boudoir - a quick image search probably reveals sensual images of thin, white cis women and that's one of the reasons why it's important to me as a fat queer woman to create these images for myself. To me, boudoir is about disrupting the male gaze and challenging beauty standards for who is allowed to feel beautiful and empowered. Arriving in Boudoir by Nomi's studio, I felt instantly at ease when I found out that she would be photographing the queer fashion show I would be walking in the next day.

Queer Enough: My National Coming Out Day Story

Fat, Queer and Here: National Coming Out Day
I don't have a coming out story. I feel like I come out all the time and I probably always will. I haven't always known I was queer. For a long time, I felt really guilty that my queerness didn't look the way I thought it was supposed to. I didn't feel queer enough. I felt behind. I worried that I wouldn't be accepted; that I would be judged by any potential partner for being late. As it turns out, the only person judging me, was me. This fear kept me from really discovering my authentic self.

Understanding my sexuality and queer identity has been a lot like learning to love my body - it has been a journey and an ongoing process of self discovery, acceptance and empowerment. It didn't happen overnight. In fact, this is a process I've been going through most of my 20s. I identified as fluid at 21; bisexual at 25 and now at 29, queer fits best for me. Prior to my current relationship with a woman, my two most serious relationships were with cis men.

Indie Plus Size Designers I Love and What I Wore To NYFW

By Alysse Dalessandro
on October 04, 2017

I am still recovering from my New York Fashion Week hangover but before I fully move on, I wanted to bring you one of my favorite looks that I wore that week. I spent a lot of time in advance stressing about my events. I am used to putting together looks for an events but having something that reflected my personal style to wear for a series of events lasting over a week was a challenge.

Before I left for New York, one of my favorite indie designers Christian Ome'Shun made me a custom CO Essential Leopard Set to wear and I saved it for my last day of shows. For a little extra drama, my custom set has a skirt ruffle and ruffle sleeves as well as being made for a petite height. It's basically perfectly made for me! Extended sizing is available and you can use code "READYTOSTARE" to take 15% off your order from CO.

DOPE at Any Height: Plus Size Pants for Petite and Tall Babes

Happy unseasonably warm Fall y'all! DOPE at Any Height  is back today with my tall partner-in-crime, Ramona O., and we are bringing you another look from plus size clothing fave ELOQUII! Plus size pants are one of the hardest items to shop for when you are tall or petite plus size so Ramona and I were so excited to try out ELOQUII's iconic Kady Fit Pants that come in lengths that work for both of us.

The Kady Fit plus size ankle pants are made from a double weave material that makes their fit consistent across various prints and styles. They come in sizes 12-28 and are available in regular fit and viola, a fit for women whose hips are 1-2 sizes bigger than their waist and bust. AND they come in short, regular and tall.

Plus Size Representation Rose At New York Fashion Week

Plus Size Representation Rose At New York Fashion Week

On September 21, 2017, The Fashion Spot released its bi-annual diversity report tallying up model representation in 2,601 runway appearances at 94 major shows from New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2018. The Fashion Spot looks at race, size, age, and transgender visibility in their reporting. For the first time ever, there were 90 appearances of plus size models accounting for a total of 3.46% of all models on the runway. If that doesn’t sound like progress, keep in mind that in Fall 2016, there were only four plus size models on the runway.

The first plus size line to show at NYFW was Eden Miller’s Cabria in 2013. During a group presentation by the Fashion Law Institute,  Miller showed a history-making plus size collection under the tents. But since 2013, plus size representation on the runway has been a slow climb. Despite only account for less 4% of all models on the runway, this season felt like an important shift in representation. i-D declared that SS 2018, had “more body shape diversity than ever.”

Four Fat Bitches Take NYFW - Fat Girl Flow, Ready to Stare, Margot Meanie & Nataliemeansnice

Four Fat Bitches Take NYFW
I'll be honest that I didn't know what to expect when I went to New York Fashion Week for the first time. Mainstream fashion isn't exactly welcoming to plus size women especially when you're not just acceptably plus but undeniably fat. I decided that I didn't care about fitting in but I cared most about being myself.

In the spirit of being true to my fat bitch self, three of my closest blogger pals and I decided we were going to do a photoshoot together right across from the entrance to Skylight Clarkson Square, one of the venues for NYFW. Myself, Nataliemeansnice, Margot Meanie and Fat Girl Flow all have distinctly different styles; we have different body shapes and we represent different heights and sizes. But we all equally love the Fat Bitch shirt designed by Corissa of Fat Girl Flow. One of my favorite photographers, Rochelle Brock of Fat Leopard captured these images.

Just a Fat Bitch Going to New York Fashion Week

Just a Fat Bitch going to New York Fashion Week

There's a moment in every fat girl's life where she is called a fat bitch for the first time. For me, that moment came on the playground in third grade. My friend had told my crush about said crush and his response was "eww, she's a fat bitch." I remember being startled and hurt. He was the first but he wasn't the last. And during that time of my life, I really started to delve deeper into my love of fashion.

Fashion became my freedom from bullying. I knew that I could put together looks better than anyone else. I wasn't afraid to stand out. In fact, I thrived when I did. I remember writing out my first list of goals and right at the top: attend New York Fashion Week. And guess what? In only a few short days, this Fat Bitch is doing just that!

Plus Size Underwear and Briefs with TomboyX

I have a ridiculously hard time finding plus size underwear and briefs that are cute, comfortable and come in my size. And because of this ongoing struggle, I don't know what took me so long to try out TomboyX! Now, I have found briefs, shorts, and trunks that are soft, comfy and aesthetically exactly what I want.

TomboyX offers underwear designed to fit wherever you are on the gender spectrum. Their underwear also comes in a range of sizes: small - 4X. They have a really detailed size chart so that you can figure out what size you need. They suggest ordering by hip measurement so I ordered a 3X in all styles.
