Valentineâs Day is almost here and you may be trying to decide how to celebrate, no matter who you are or arenât celebrating with. (Hint: you donât have to be with someone to celebrate love. How about loving yourself?) This year why not make it a ? How do you do that, you ask?
True Crime.
Thatâs right. Iâm talking about blood, betrayal, and cold-blooded murder. Nothing like a healthy combination of Netflix, chocolate, popcorn, and murder to set the mood, am I right? Keep reading to find out the best true crime shows to binge-watch with your valentine!
I Am a Killer
I Am a Killer is a documentary series of chilling interviews with convicted murderers. Viewers get to hear and see firsthand accounts of murderersâ crimes and learn about their motivations and background. Viewers will get two seasons packed full of the deadliest people willing to speak on camera.
Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes
Ted Bundy is considered one of the most notorious serial killers in America. He was arrested in 1978 and convicted of murdering more than 30 women. In 1989, he was executed. This docuseries is four episodes long and includes over 100 hundred hours of interviews with Ted Bundy, those who worked on the case, his victims who survived, and his own friends and family.
Donât F**k With Cats
This docuseries is probably the most messed up one out there. Warning: if you have a weak stomach or are an extreme animal lover, you may not be able to handle this one. Donât F**k With Cats chronicles the investigation of an internet killer who started his crime spree with torturing and killing animals, and then posting the videos online. As most budding murderers do, he progresses to then killing an actual person. This documentary chronicles his crimes and how he was caught. I would be shocked if many people could get through all three episodes of this one!
Making a Murderer
This is the two-season docuseries that took the country, and social media, by storm in 2015 and again in 2018. Making a Murderer is about Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey from Wisconsin. Steven Avery served 18 years in prison for the sexual assault and attempted murder of Penny Beernstsen, until DNA exonerated him.
Steven Avery was charged again in 2005 (convicted in 2007) for murdering Teresa Halbach with his nephew Brendan Dassey. Because of his prior case conviction being overturned, many people speculated as to the veracity of this new charge.
The following two shows are fiction, but they are still gruesome and awesome!
Mindhunter
Newbie FBI agent Holden Ford and veteran agent Bill Tench start the behavioral analysis unit of the FBI. (The same BAU in the show Criminal Minds). Psychology professor Dr. Wendy Carr joins the team to travel the country to interview some of the most demented and twisted serial killers, including Charles Manson, to learn more about what makes serial killers tick. Data collected from their interviews helps them solve open serial murder cases. Mindhunter is certainly a dive into the extremely disturbed and frightening mind of a serial killer. Perfect for Valentine’s Day!
You
You is the totally messed up story of Joe who seemingly falls in love with an Instagram-obsessed grad student who desperately wants to be more poetic than she is. Their chance encounter is so perfect it is almost as if it was designed by Cupid himself. But Joe isnât who he says he is. With a dark past and an even darker future, Joe turns into an obsessed lover who will stop at nothing to be with the one he loves. By the end of the second episode, viewers are rooting for the demented stalker! How messed up is that?!
