In July, I traveled to Baltimore for the 5th annual Curves Rock Fashion Weekend
. The four-day long event featured shopping, panel discussions, a runway competition, mixer, and an epic fashion show.
I was a part of the Saturday morning Curvy Women Who Rock Brunch panel
alongside of the plus size fashion industry heavy hitters. We were asked about cultivating personal style and learning to tune out other's opinions about who we should be. The brunch also featured a fashion presentation by some of the designers who were also featured in the fashion show and an awards ceremony honoring curvy women who rock in the community. Between the panel discussion and the acceptance speeches from the honorees, I know that we all walked away inspired and standing firm in our truth.

The Curvy Women Who Rock Panel
Post Panel, I shopped the Curvy Expo and the Ashley Stewart sample sale where I scored some great pieces including a one-of-a-kind red PVC skirt from House of Diggnity.
That evening, I attended the VIP mixer and networked with some fellow bloggers. The event really drew a diverse crowd from around the DMV and I was happy to be surrounded by so many positive women.
I had a front row seat to the fashion show where host Lonnie Bee kept us all laughing and the designers kept us in awe with stunning designs. From sexy swimwear to lavish evening gowns, the designers certainly turned up the heat on the runway. But I think what I liked most about the runway show was the models themselves. Unlike so many shows that I've been to where only smaller hourglass and otherwise "acceptably curvy" models, this show body shape and size diversity! Everyone in the audience could look at the runway and see someone who looked like them. That's how all fashion shows should be.
Although this was my first time in attendance, it was clear to me that Curves Rock Weekend is by plus size women for plus size women. I felt honored to be able to lend my voice to the panel discussion. The passion of the show's organizers, Chanell & Tykesha, really shined through in each and every event.
